CREDIT LAUNDROMAT – Why Should You Have One?

CREDIT LAUNDROMAT – Why Should You Have One?

Updated: 14/11/2018 Liza Graham

Tired of Debt Collectors calling in the most inopportune times of the day? You know like, at work; while eating dinner, weekends.

Tired of seeing emails from Debt Collectors? Especially with discount offers to close a balance or what looks like threats of “Consequences of Non-Payment”

These are just some of the things you might experience when dealing with Debt Collectors trying to reach you. They do engage in strategic tactics to try and contact you. They will:

  • Call you on your Land Line
  • Call you on your Mobile
  • Call you on your Company Phone
  • Leave Messages in your different phones
  • Send Text Messages
  • Send Email
  • Send Letters by Mail
  • Send someone to your house or work
  • They may even contact your relatives and friends looking for you!

The surprising Fact about this strategy is: It is generally done within the confines of the Law. Debt Collectors are trained in Privacy Legislation and the Debt Collection Guidelines. The contact schedule that they will use is supposed to be fool-proof and the means that they use are supposed to be legit. But it can be very distressing!

Don’t Despair!

The best way to combat this problem is to use the Industry Guidelines to arm yourself with the knowledge to work around their tactics. Enter the Credit Laundromat.

What is a Credit Laundromat?

A Laundromat, by its definition, it’s where you clean your dirty laundry. So, a Credit Laundromat is used to clean your credit. Here are our suggestions:

Set-up a Credit Laundromat Email

If you have a ‘supported package’ we will help you create a separate email outside your personal and work email.  If you’re DIY then we recommend setting up an email account yourself with one of the many free email providers (e.g. Gmail or mail.com) and include your correct name if you can. This will help with the identification process with Credit Providers later on and may also prevent your email’s ending up in a spam folder.

Now What?

Once your Credit Laundromat System is up and running, the next step is to contact every one of your creditors. Update your contact details with them either online or by sending an email declaring that all forms of communications should be done ONLY through email. Additionally, tell them the best time to send an email; at a time when you generally check emails.

Even Playing Battlefield

Now hopefully we’ve levelled the field, so here are a few reminders:

  • Regularly check your Credit Laundromat Email
  • If you’re DIY then always respond to them if they send an email
  • If they are trying to slip through this, let them have a first try. Then politely remind them again that all communications should be done through email. If they persist, simply remind them again that all communications should be done through email, but always keep a record. You can use this to complain later if necessary.

Final Notes

This Credit Laundromat System will help you take back control of your communications with Debt Collectors. Make sure you keep your word. If you’ve made payment arrangements; do it and keep doing it.  If you say you’ll get back to them by a certain date/time; do it. If you don’t then the Debt Collectors will continue to hound you.
